Fresh & Easy Launches Line of BTS Meal Solutions

Sept 4, 2008

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market said it created a line of back to school meal solutions to help families kick off the new school year with affordable, wholesome food prepared specifically for the lunchbox.

"Parents can feel good about what they are feeding their kids from Fresh & Easy," said Simon Uwins, Fresh & Easy c.m.o. "We offer fresh, wholesome food options at affordable prices and a range of creative meal ideas for any age."

The Tesco-owned grocer cited a recent Nielsen study, which suggested that there will be a change in where consumers shop along with the prices they are willing to pay. "Consumers may be cutting back in terms of discretionary spending, but they are not about to send their kids to school without the necessities," said James Russo, v.p. of marketing, food and beverage sector, Nielsen.

The all-in-one meals, called Smart Boxes, sell for $2.98 each, and include individual servings of baby carrots, dried fruit, crackers, a cheese stick, and an organic drink (apple juice, milk, fruit punch, or grape juice). In addition, each variety of meal box features one of several different word games printed on them.

Fresh & Easy operates 77 stores in Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada.
