Ralphs Donates $10K to Assist Needy Students in L.A.

Aug 22, 2008

The Kroger Co.'s Ralphs subsidiary is packing up a $10,000 grant to help low-income school-aged children living in downtown Los Angeles' Skid Row area get ready to head back to school.

Representatives of the Los Angeles-based supermarket company's charitable arm, The Ralphs Fund, will present the donation at the Los Angeles Mission's 9th Annual End of Summer Block Party on this weekend. The funds will in turn be used to provide backpacks filled with school supplies that children will need as they return to school for every child in attendance at event.

Ralphs is also providing additional school supplies and peanut butter and jelly ice cream treats for families attending the End of Summer Block Party.

The Los Angeles Mission will serve about 2,000 meals at the End of Summer Block Party, which is part of the more than half a million meals it will provide this year to the homeless on Skid Row.

Ralph's most recent donation follows last year's $10 million in cash and in-kind donations to organizations focused on health, education, the fight against hunger, the
advancement of women and minorities, and developing our youth.

Ralph's operates 265 supermarkets in California and employs 25,000.
