Minn. Grocers Urge Consumers to Support 'Minnesota's Own'

Oct 2, 2008

The Minnesota Grocers Association is urging consumers to help their neighbors struggling with hunger by supporting the third annual "Minnesota's Own" promotion.
The unique promotion, which runs through the end of the month, includes three-way participation by vendors, grocers, and consumers.

Minnesota grocers, which have a long tradition of strong community-support, are offering opportunities for consumers to get involved and make a difference in the lives of their hungry neighbors. Ditto for participating vendors, which will make donations to Second Harvest Heartland in hopes of encouraging consumers to participate in the event.

Consumers will be alerted to the event this Sunday with ads in various newspapers that will list participating retailers and vendor partners while also offering details of a number of local in-store promotions.

"During this time of economic challenge, 'Minnesota's Own' provides an excellent opportunity to increase awareness of a social issue that affects all our communities," said Jamie Pfuhl, MGA president. "By raising funds, increasing public support and promoting local donations to our food banks and shelves, the Minnesota retail food industry can truly make a difference in the fight to end hunger."

MGA represents 200 retail members operating nearly 1,200 stores statewide, as well as 120 manufacturers and distributors.
